Our Contribution

TWIST’s contribution to the field of systems change is guided by deep intentionality and core principles: joy, emergence, co-creativity, stewardship, and transcending paradigms. We recognize that true transformation is not just technical—it is deeply human. By creating safe, brave spaces for asset owners and enablers, we weave together the personal and relational aspects of investing for systems change.

Our mission is to support and accelerate the shift toward a regenerative future by building the infrastructure and systems-aware relationships that the field needs next.

Explore our evolving Theory of Transformation (ToT) and the specific pathways we use to strengthen the field of systemic investing.

TWIST Theory of Transformation

Our Theory of Transformation represents how TWIST contributes to shifting investing into a force for regenerative systems

Starting by recognising that today’s polycrises are rooted in growing divides, it calls for a change in how capital flows and how we show up within the systems we are a part of.

Grounded in our guiding principles - joy, emergence, co-creativity, collaboration, global perspectives, stewardship mindset and transcending paradigms - TWIST strives to enable inner, relational and financial capital for change. We do this by weaving together community, inner work and knowledge, while strengthening the field of investing for systems change.

Our role is to align capital with our vision of a world with resilient systems that sustain and regenerate life

TWIST Case Studies

TWIST invited each member of the TWIST Community of Practice to share their experience through case studies presentations and by completing the template that we developed in partnership with the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative. Our intention in convening is to create a safe, supportive space for practitioners to share and learn, while also providing a platform for research and publication to document practice and inspire others.

Geographies Targeted in the TWIST Case Studies

TWIST Community of Practice members have contributed 61 case studies to date, representing a wide range of geographies spanning six of the seven continents (Antarctica being the only exception). This highlights that this approach is truly emerging on a global scale and that it can be applied in any country or continent. In addition, some case studies are global in nature, e.g. seeking to transform the financial system or the aquaculture system globally.

Systems Targeted in the TWIST Case Studies

Stories that emerged include those seeking to transform the food system in Hawai’i, the education system in Mexico, the economic system of Melbourne, and the financial system globally. Together, the Community of Practice has spent many hours in active dialogue, exploring how these case studies exhibited differences between the more familiar areas of sustainable and impact investing, and this emerging field of investing for systems change.
